How might we tap into the potential of train stations so they become spaces that amplify and influence behaviours? This was the main question of the brief, essentially we had to enhance the user experience at train stations. I say ‘we’ because it was a team project, mine was called ‘The Minions’.
After having some weeks of discussing which issues are there in the train station and how to solve them, we ended up realising there was a pattern; anxiety and stress became a common things among commuters, mainly caused for delayed trains, uncomfortable areas and lack of social activities.
Once we picked our area of intervention (Cambridge Railway Station) we decided to create a new place for people to feel less stressed, ‘The Green House’. It would be a new bridge on top of the rails, being connected to the other replica of the bridge that already exists that connects platforms 1 and 7. Not only did this place enhance the overall look/feeling of the station, but it also created more connections to platforms.
Despite this project taking us out of our comfort zone, we gain more knowledge than we imagined about what projects a graphic designer can face, and I am so grateful for that. Finally, the software I used to create the 3d visual are Minecraft and TheSims4
